Reggie’s Hair Clay by Hodges

All natural hair clay that styles and nourishes

When it comes to men’s hair styling products, we tried them all.

Some offer firm hold but the product hardens after being opened for a week. Some provide a matt finish but poor hold. Almost all of them share formulations that rely on petrochemicals. These inferior ingredients offer no benefit to your hair and have been linked to health concerns and skin irritation.

Raising The Standard of Men’s Hair Products

We wanted to create a versatile product that has the type of hold, finish and styling properties that appealed to men that cared about a healthy lifestyle. So we also considered every single ingredient to ensure it was beneficial for either its styling or nourishing your hair properties. And crucially we don’t use any type of chemicals.

Introducing Reggie’s Hair Clay

Handmade in England, Reggie's Hair Clay is a very different product. The finish is a matte, natural, workable texture that can be reworked throughout the day. It's equally suitable for hair or beards and it's even vegan-friendly.

Brief History of Men's Hair Styling Products

Original brands like Brylcream have been around since the 1930s when gents enjoyed slick back styles in what we would consider today to be a product heavy finish. After the influence of more natural hairstyles of the 1960s other types of men's hair styling products became available. Teenage boys favourite hair gels became popular and left hair with that crusty finish which was easier than expected to rinse.

While both types of products differ in finish, they share the core chemical formulations around petrochemicals such as mineral oil, petrolatum or paraffin liquidum.

There are many men's styling products that focus on the natural credentials bit still contain chemicals such as …. It’s quick and simple to check this

Water-based vs Oil based Hair Styling Products

All men's hair styling clays, waxes and pomades are either water based or oil based. Pomades usually contain some kind of oil based formulation for 1950’s style crew cuts. Many modern styling products used water-based formulas that wash out more easily.

Why chemicals matter in hair styling products?

Both varieties are made with various chemical compounds that are chosen for cost, not their beneficial properties. Petrochemicals in cosmetics are far from ideal and at worst they have been linked to everything from skin irritation to far greater health concerns.

For hair in particular, these chemicals have been linked to dry or greasy hair, dandruff and even a reduction in hair production. There is plenty of research available online in this area.
